What are microorganisms?
Microorganisms are the organisms (or living creatures) which are too small to be seen with the naked eye. Microorganisms can only be seen with the help of microscope because they are very small to be seen with the naked eye. Microorganisms are also known as microbes.
Major classification of microorganisms are:

☆ Fungi
☆ Protozoa
Since several decades scientists thought that microorganisms can only cause diseases, but there are some useful microorganisms too.
Why microorganisms are our friends?
- Yeast is used for making bakery products.
- Yeast is used in Commercial use.
- Microorganisms are used to make vaccines.
- Microorganisms are used for the preparation of antibiotics.
- Microorganisms help in cleaning the environment by decomposing dead and decaying plant and animsl matter and convert it into humus.
- Blue green algae and Rhizobium bacteria hrlp in nitrogen fixation.
How are microorganisms harmful to us?
Microorganisms cause various diseases in plants, animals and humans. Disease causing microorganisms are called pathogens. Microorganisms also spoil the uncovered food items and if we consume them, then it leads to food poisoning.
