PROJECT WORK:
In this activity, we were supposed to ask our grandparents and other people of their age about the type of games they used to play in their childhood and then categorize those games as indoor/outdoor played individually/played in groups, and played with/without equipment. The next task is to compare these games with those we played during childhood.
- When I asked my grandparents and other people their age about the games they used to play, I got the following answers:
1. Kabbadi
2. Gilli Danda
3. Rassa Kassi (Tug of war)
4. Skipping
5. Cricket
6. Hide and seek
7. Hopscotch
8. Kancha or Marbles
9. 7 stones or Pithu
10. Kho-kho
11. Antakshari
12. Spinning top or Lattoo
13. Gutte/Five Stones
14. Chaupar
- These can be categorized as
Outdoor Games: Indoor Games:
1. Gilli Danda 1. Antakshari
2. Rassa Kassi (Tug of war) 2.Spinning top or Lattoo
3. Cricket 3. Gutte/Five Stones
4. 7 stones or Pithu 4. Chaupar
5. Kho-kho
6. Skipping
7. Hopscotch
8. Kancha or Marbles
9. Kabbadi
- Games played in a group:-
1. Gilli Danda
2. Rassa Kassi (Tug of war)
3. Cricket
4. 7 stones or Pithu
5. Kho-kho
6. Hopscotch
7. Kancha or Marbles
8. Kabbadi
9. Antakshari
10. Gutte/Five Stones
11. Chaupar
- Games played individually/ one player: Skipping and Spinning top or Lattoo.
- Games played with equipment/without equipment: All the games except antakshri, kho-kho, and kabbadi are played with basic equipment like stones, chalk, marbles, and ropes.
- Games that we used to play in our childhood:
- Ludo
- Snakes and ladder
- Chess
- Games on mobile
- Carrom board
- Cricket
- Hide and seek etc
When we compared both the games, we found out that our grandparents used to play mostly outdoor games, that involved a lot of physical activity, were played in group and groups, and needed basic equipment, whereas, we on the other hand played mostly indoor games and mobile games which are played individually. This has resulted in a decline in the feeling of togetherness and physical activity causing health problems in the young generation.
