Arjan Singh India's first and only Marshal of the Indian Air force and Padma Vibhushan awardee has seen a stellar career only most people dream of.
In the year 1938 he entered RAF college as a flight cadet then was commissioned in Royal Air Force as a Pilot officer in December of 1939. He was promoted to Flying officer in May, 1941 and then flight lieutenant in May, 1942.
He then was Squadron leader in September, 1943 and was also awarded distinguished flying cross for his military skills in flying Hurricane fighters in defense of Imphal.
He was then promoted to Wing commander in Royal Indian Air Force from 1945-1948 and also served as the group captain. He was then acting Air Commodore at the Indian Air Force from December 1950 to 1958.
He then was promoted to Air Vice Marshal from 1958 to 1962 and then Deputy Chief of Air Staff from January 1963 and Vice Chief of Air Staff in August 1963 and in August of 1964.
He was promoted to Chief of Air Staff at an age of 45 and due to his extraordinary contribution to Indo-Pak War he was promoted to India's first and only Air chief Marshal in January 1966 and then took retirement in 1970.
