Initial speed of projected body = u
During ascent:
v = u + at
0 = u - gt
t = u/g
During descent:
v = u + at
v = 0 + gt’
t’ = v/g
t’ = u/g [v = u because body reaches the ground with speed equal to speed of projection]
∴ t = t’
Hence, for a body thrown upwards it’s time of ascent is equal to time of descent.
Hence proved,
Time of descent = Time of ascent
