properties of metal and non-metal:

metal:

lustrous (shiny)

good conductors of heat and electricity.

high melting point.

high density (heavy for their size)

malleable (can be hammered)

ductile (can be drawn into wires)

non-metal:

non lustrous

bad/poor conductors of heat and electricity.

low melting point.

low density

non malleable.

non ductile.

Properties of metal..

They are lustrous..
They are malleable..
They occupy high melting and boiling point...(galleum and cesium are exception)
They are good conductor of electricity.
They are mostly ductile...
They are good conductor of heat...
They are rigid..
They are sonorous..
They have high tensile strength..
They are mostly solid... (mercury exception)
They are electropositive...
They are strong.. (sodium and potassium are exceptions as they can be cut off with a regular knife..)

Properties of non metals..

They are not lustrous..(iodine is exception)
They are not malleable..
They occupy low melting and boiling point...
They are not good conductor of electricity.(graphite is an exception)
They are not ductile...
They are not good conductor of heat...
They are not rigid..
They are not sonorous..
They have low tensile strength..
They are mostly liquids..
They are electronegative....
They are soft... (diamond is exception as it is the hardest substance)

Hope it helps.
