★ If a : b : : c : d, i.e. a/b = c/d, then the given proportion can be written as b : a : : d : c, i.e. b/a = d/c by taking the reciprocals of the term on both sides. The relationship is known as 'invertendo'.

★ If a : b : : c : d, i.e. a/b = c/d, then the given proportion can be written as a : c : : b : d, i.e. a/c = b/d. The relationship for this property of proportion is called as 'Alternendo'.

★ If a : b : : c : d, i.e. a/b = c/d, then the given proportion can be written as a + b : b : : c + d : d,

i.e. a + b /b = c+d /d. This relationship for properties of proportion is known as 'componendo'.

★ If a : b : : c : d, i.e. a /b = c/d, then the given proportion can be written as –

a-b : b : : c-d : d i.e. a-b/b = c-d/d. This relationship for properties of proportion is known as 'Dividendo'.
