A wave is a disturbance that moves from the point of creation at a wave velocity vw. A wave has a wavelength , which is the distance between adjacent identical parts of the wave. The wave velocity and the wavelength are related to the wave's frequency andperiod by v w = λ T v w = λ T or v w = f λ v w = f λ .

Wavelength: the distance between adjacent crests, measured in meters.

Frequency: the number of complete waves that pass a point in one second, measured in inverse seconds, or Hertz (Hz)

Wave velocity, distance traversed by a periodic, or cyclic, motion per unit time (in any direction)

In the physical sciences, the wavenumber (also wave number or repetency) is the spatial frequency of a wave, measured in cycles per unit distance or radians per unit distance. Whereas temporal frequency can be thought as the number of waves per unit time, wavenumber is the number of waves per unit distance.
