Answer:

Properties of whole number help us to understand the numbers better. Moreover, they make calculations under certain operations like addition, subtraction, multiplication and division very simple. The different types of properties of whole numbers are as follows:

1.closure for addition and multiplication.

2.Commutative property for addition and multiplication.

3.Associative property for addition and multiplication.

4.Distributive property for multiplication over addition.

identity for multiplication and addition.

Closure Property

5+6=11

9+8=17

36+0=36

9×8=72

6×11=66

0×84=0

From the example we can conclude that when we add or multiply any two whole numberswe get a whole number.

Whole numbers are closed under multiplication and addition.

Note: Division by zero is not defined.

Commutative property for addition and multiplication

you can add whole numbers in any order. We can say that addition is commutative for whole numbers. This property is known as commutativity for addition.

5+11=11+5

16=16

you can multiply two whole numbers in any order. Thus we say multiplication is commutative for whole numbers.

Multiply 8 and 6 in different orders, you will get the same answer.

8×6=48

6×8=48

Therefore 8×6=6×8

Note: Subtraction is not commutative.

Division is not commutative.

Answer:

A whole number Properties

• 1. Commutative Property of Multiplication - A whole number added to 0 remains unchanged. Thus, O is called the additive identity in whole numbers. The product of two whole numbers is the same, no matter in which order they are multiplied. This is called the Commutative property of multiplication. A whole number multiplied by 1 remains unchanged. Thus, 1 is called the multiplicative identity in whole numbers.

⚫ 2. Associative Property of Addition -Whole numbers are closed under addition and multiplication. Subtraction and division are not commutative in whole numbers.Whole numbers are not closed under subtraction and division. While adding whole numbers, we can group the numbers in any order. This is called the associative property of addition. 2012

⚫ 3. Distuributive of Multiplication Over Addition - The sum of the products of a whole number with two other whole numbers is equal to the product of the whole number with the sum of 3 the two other whole numbers. This is called the distributive property of multiplication over addition.
