Answer:
PROPHASE I
- It is the largest phase.
- It is divided into five sub stages.
- Leptotene
- Zygotene
- Pachytene
- Diplotene
- Diakinesis
1.Leptotene
- It is the first stage of the prophase of meiosis.
- In this phase chromosomes are longest and thinnest.
- It is also called as bouquet stage.
- In this phase condensation of chromosome is start.
- In this phase assembly of microtubules start.
2. Zygotene
- It is the second stage of the prophase of meiosis.
- In this phase synaptonemal complex is formed between two homologous chromosome.
3. Pachytene
- It is the third stage of the prophase of meiosis.
- In this phase crossing over / gene exchange occurs between the the two homologous chromosome.
4. Diplotene
- It is the fourth stage of the prophase of meiosis.
- In this phase chiasmata is formed.
5.Diakinesis
- It is the fifth and last stage of the prophase of meiosis.
- In this phase terminalization of chiasmata start.
- Chromosome is highly condensed.
- In this phase nuclear membrane, nucleolus, endoplasmic reticulum and golgi complex are disappeared.
- Diakinesis represents transition to metaphase I.
