Alkenes are aliphatic hydrocarbons containing carbon-carbon double bonds and general formula CnH2n.

Hii Muskan,

◆ Answer -

Propyne can be prepared by dehydrohalogenation of 1,2-dichloropropane.

◆ Explanation -

1,2-Dichloropropane on first dehydrohalogenation gives 1-chloropropene.

CH3-CH(Cl)-CH2(Cl) + ∆ --> CH3-C(Cl)=CH + HCl

1-Chloropropene on further dehydrohalogenation gives propyne.

CH3-C(Cl)=CH2 + ∆ --> CH3-C≡CH + HCl

Hope this helps you clear the doubts. Thanks for asking..
