protein only diets are commonly suggested for people looking to lose weight. Some diet websites even promote them as saying that they are hard for your cells to use for cellular respiration and don't produce as much ATP. True or False? Why?
A.False; Cells prefer to use protein over glucose or lipids because its so easy to convert them into ATP.
B. False; It is not hard for cells to use proteins for energy but most proteins are used as amino acid building blocks first before the cell will use them to make ATP.
C.True; amino acids converted from proteins can only be used in the citric acid cycle and thus fail to produce as much ATP
D. True; proteins are near impossible to digest which is why when you eat too much barbecue you get the meat sweats.
