Prothallus is formed in pteridophytes. And the prothallus represents the gametophyte stage and it is haploid in nature. It bears both male and female gametophyte on single prothallus that is why it is monoecious. But it is protandrous in nature as male gametophyte mature first so cross fertilisation takes place.
