let us assume 1/√2 is rational

1/√2=p/q

then if we interchange the ratios it will be that √2 is rational as p q and 1 are rational and p q are co prime

but it contradicts the fact that√2 is irrational

this contradiction in due to wrong supposition therefore 1/√2 is irrational
