It can be verified experimentally by the following experiment.

Take a tumbler of water and place the tumbler in a beaker of known weight. Take a small stone and measure the weight of the stone by a spring balance. Note down this weight. Now, dip the stone completely in the tumbler slowly. Water from the tumbler will flow down to the beaker. Gently take away the tumbler. Measure the weight of the beaker. You can find that the increased weight of the beaker is same as th weight of the stone.
