Answer- The above question is from the chapter 'Integers'.

Integers: _ _ _ , - 3, - 2, - 1, 0, 1, 2, 3, _ _ _ are called integers i.e. collection of positive, negative numbers and zero is called integers.

Set of integers is denoted by Z.

Concept used: Verification of a + (b + c) = (a + b) + c i.e. Associative property of addition of integers.

Given question: Prove associative property of addition of integers for

a = 12

b = - 6 and

c = -2

Solution:

L.H.S. = a + (b + c)

          = 12 + [(-6) + (-2)]

          = 12 + [(-6 - 2)]

          = 12 + [(-8)]

          = 12 - 8

          = 4

R.H.S. = (a + b) + c

           = [12 + (-6) + (-2)

           = (12 - 6) - 2

           = 6 - 2

           = 4

As L.H.S. = R.H.S., ∴ a + (b + c) = (a + b) + c i.e. associative property of addition is true for integers.

Hence, proved.
