let a = b

a^2 = ab ( by multiplying by a on both sides )

now , subtract both sides by b^2

a^2 - b^2 = ab - b^2

we know the identity

( a + b ) ( a - b ) = b ( a - b )

now divide both sides by ( a - b )

we will get

a + b = b

we know that a = b

so ,

b+ b = b

2b = b

cancelling b on both sides

we will get

2 = 1

Answer:

2=1

Step-by-step explanation:

a = b ...........Given.

a2 = ab ........ Multiply both sides by a.

a2-b2 = ab-b2.......Subtract b2 from both sides.

(a+b)(a-b) = b(a-b)........ Factor both sides.

(a+b) = b .......Divide both sides by (a-b)

a+a = a ....... Substitute a for b.

2a = a ........Addition.

2 = 1 ..........Divide both sides by a.
