since density=mass/vol

VD = (Mgas)for certain Volume/(Mh2)for certain volume

If N molecules are present in the given volume of a gas and hydrogen under similar condition of temperature and pressure.

VD = (Mgas)of N molecules/(Mh2)of N molecules

=(Mgas)of 1 molecule/(Mh2)of 1 molecule

=molecular mass of gas/2

therefore molecular mass=2×Vapour density.
