let us assume that√3-√8 is a rational number

so it must be equal to p/q where p and q are integers and q is not equal to 0.

i.e √3-√8= p/q

but we know that√3 is irrational and √8 is also irrational so their difference is also irrational.

hence √3-√8 is an irrational number
