Multiply it with  1 .
                         3

 3   ₓ   1    =    1  
√5      3         √5

 1    is a rational number as product of two rational numbers is also rational.

This contradicts the fact that √5 is irrational. Hence, our assumption is wrong and  3   is irrational .
