taken √3 irrational

rational-irrational=irrational hence it's irrational

OR

let us contradict it to be a rational no.,so,it can be represented as

5 - 2 \sqrt{3}  =  \frac{a}{b}

5 -  \frac{a}{b}  = 2 \sqrt{3}

lhs is rational whereas rhs is irrational

so, our contradiction was wrong and hence

it's an irrational number
