Suppose on the contrary 5-2√3 is rational

therefore 5-2√3=p/q

√3=-(1/2)[(p/q)-5]

since p and q are integers

therefore -(1/2)[(p/q)-5] is rational

but √3 is irrational

therefore 5-2√3 is irrational

hence proved
