Let 5 - √3 be rational no.

5 - √3 = p/q (where p and q are co prime and q ≠0)

5 - p/q = √3

In LHS there is rational and in RHS there is Irrational no. This is not possible. This contradicts our equation that p and q are co prime. This contradiction arise due to our wrong assumption.

Thus 5 - √3 is Irrational no.

Hope it helps!
