prove that Miss mebbin was a great miser
Answers
Answer :
In the short story 'Mrs. Packletide's Tiger' by Saki, Miss Louisa Mebbin is a mean and selfish lady. She is a great miser who can go to any length and adopt any unethical means to acquire money. She is very stingy and is very careful and possessive about money. It is the only purpose of her existence. She has a protective elder-sister attitude towards money and does not let anyone waste it on tips on waiters. After she comes to know that Mrs. Packletide had shot the wrong animal by mistake, she blackmails her in order to extract more money from her.
The following lines from the story provide the answer :
'Louisa Mebbin adopted a protective elder-sister attitude towards money in general, irrespective of nationality or denomination. Her energetic intervention had saved many a rouble from dissipating itself in tips in some Moscow hotel, and francs and centimes clung to her instinctively under circumstances which would have driven them headlong from less sympathetic hands.'
