CH3COO- ions react with water to form a weak acid, CH3COOH and OH- ions. Thus, OH- ion concentration increases, the solution becomes alkaline. pKw - pOH = pKa + log[salt]/[acid]. pH=1/2[pKw+pKa+log C].
