We know that,

1 +  {tan}^{2}  =  {sec}^{2}

Therefore,

Taking square root on both sides

We get,

1+tan = sec

Hence,

sec - tan =1

sec = 1/cos, tan = sin /cos

to prove :- sec - tan = 1

solve LHS...

=1/cos - sin/cos

= 1-sin/cos

= cos/cos (1-sin = cos )

=1. ( both cos get canced and we get 1)

proved....
