given: triangle ABC where angle ABC=ACB

to prove: sides AB=AC

construction: draw a perpendicular bisector from point A to side BC and name the point of intersection D

proof: in triangles ADB and ADC:

angle ADB=ADC    (both 90 degrees)

BD=CD                   (equals parts of a side divided by perpendicular bisector)

angle ABD=ACD    (given)

therefore, triangles ADB and ADC are congruent

by CPCT, sides AB=AC

hence proved!
