in that case S is the complex power, P is the active power which is the average power, and Q is the reactive power, that means, the power consumed by the reactive elements. In each case:

P=V*I*cosφ

Q=V*I*senφ

where φ is equal to the phase difference between current and voltage, so, as you can see when φ=90 the Active power or average power equals zero
