If v is the velocity of a wave. We know that the total distance covered by a wave per unit time is called velocity of a wave. It is given by :

v=d / t

The distance between one crest to another crest or one trough to another trough is called wavelength of a wave. It is equivalent to distance covered. The time taken to complete one oscillation is called time period of a wave. So, the velocity of a wave is given by :

v=lamda / time or t

since ,

f=1/t or t is time period

so v=f× lamda

Hence proved
