Answer:

if F is the force applied on a body makes angle theta with the displacement. then work done is given by w=FScostheta

Explanation:

let theta =0 then cos0=1

and w=FS

hence proved

Energy is the capacity of work done, that is , the amount of work that can be done.

Suppose you have a source which has 10 J of energy meaning it has the ability to do 10 J of work. In a process, let it spend 2 J of it's energy, that is do a work equal to 2J. It has 8 J of energy left and the 2J of energy lost is transferred as work. Let the work done by this source accelerate a body, then change in it's Kinetic Energy will be :

∆K = 1/2mv²

Therefore, work done by source is :

W = ∆K

W = 1/2mv² = 1/2m(2as) = Fs

This is a basic derivation avoiding the use of integration and assumptions made are : Linear motion of body starting with v= 0 uniformly accelerated.

In general, work done is a dot product of force and corresponding displacement. This definitions keeps in accordance with above derivation.

W = F.S = FScosθ.
