Prove with the help of an activity that an electric current can deflect the needle of a magnetic compass.
Answers
Answer:
Explanation:
Make a simple electrical circuit consisting of a long straight wire, switch, torch bulb and battery now set the wire in rectangular shape and place switch and beside thAt battery and hold the compass needle parAllel to and the wire .switch on the current and the we observe that the compass needle reflects
Hope this is helpful
Activity which shows that electric current can deflect needle of the magnetic compass,is as follows -
• Materials required :
- A thick and non insulated copper wire.
- A battery.
- A magnetic compass.
• At first take out the face glass of the magnetic compass to expose the inner magnetic needle to the external environment
• Then bend the copper wire into a U shape, and the open end of the U should be equal to the length of the battery.
• Then connect the two open ends of the copper wire "U",with the two terminals of the battery.
• At last, hold the whole battery connected wire set-up, near the exposed magnetic needle of the compass. (A minimum distance should be maintained, the wire should not touch the needle)
• Observation :
The needle will be deflected when we hold the wire and battery set-up near the needle.
• Conclusion :
The electricity has a magnetic effect.
