As we know that the Theory of Relativity was the ground breaking discovery of 20th century by Einstein and it is considered to be the most important work of the physics of all time.
Since there is not any exact prove this relation and thatswhy it is not considered to a solid equation but as we know that it has many applications like nuclear reactors and so on. Therefore it cant be considered to be wrong also.
Such things are called hypothesis which are either correct or wrong but has not yet been proved that what it is in exact.
Since 1916, there has many attempts to prove it wrong or right but has not reached to any single one.
This relation in physics is popularly know as Energy-Mass Equivalence.
