Vasco da Gama discovered the route of the Indian Ocean through the southern tip of Africa in 1497–98.In beginning of the 8th century, the Swahili people began trading with the Arabian  Indian, Chinese, and Southeast Asian peoples. Indian Ocean are  divided into three categories- dhows, dry-cargo carriers, and tankers. The dhow trade was mainly  works  in the western Indian Ocean, a huge variety of products were transported between ports on the coast of East Africa and ports on the Arabian Peninsula and on the west coast of India .dry cargo is transported by bulk carriers from India, southern Africa, and western Australia to Japan and Europe.The largest tankers have use the Lombok Strait through the Lesser Sunda Islands to carry oil to Japan
