Mahmud of Ghazni raided India 17 times between 1001 and 1027 ce at places like Punjab, Mathura, Multan and Thaneshwar. His most daring raids were at kanauj in 1018 and Somnath in 1025 ce.He planned his attacks carefully but he didn't wish to rule over India. He plundered India and carried away wealth, artisans, and learned men.Mahmud's attacks were devasting in nature.

Some differences between the two are:-

1. Mahmud of Ghazni raided India 17 times while Muhammad ghori raided India 2 times.

2. Mahmud of ghazni didn't wish to rule over India while Muhammad ghori controlled over Delhi, Bihar, Bengal and the Ganga-Yamuna doab.
