Compound responsible for providing green colour to leaves is chlorophyll.

The chlorophyll is a pigment which is present in chloroplasts and are responsible for giving green colour to leaf of a plant.Sun is a source of white light and hence has spectrum of seven colours.

Out of the seven colours chlorophyll absorbs deep-blue and red light, so that the rest of colours present in sunlight spectrum is being reflected, causing the  leaves and plant look green.

Chlorophyll is a pigment found in the thylakoid membranes of the chloroplasts in the leaves.Pigments absorbs and reflects light of certain wavelengths and so it absorbs blue and red and reflects back green colour hence leaves are green in colour.
