PROVISIONS OF POONA PACT OF 1932... :

▶️The POONA pact was the agreement between Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. BR Ambedkar reached on 25 September 1932.

The major points are :

  • 148 seats were to be alotted to the depressed classes in the provincial legislatures.
  • A certain percentage of the seats alotted to the general non Muslim electorate would be reserved for the depressed classes.
  • Congress agreed that adequate representation would be given to the depressed classes in the civil services.
  • The depressed classes agreed to adhere to the principal of Joint electorate.
