It is a vascular plant that disperses the spores. Because that produces neither seeds nor flowers and sometimes, they are referred to as “cryptogams”, that means their reproduction is hidden. They are free spore vascular plants and they also have a life cycle with alternating, and free-living gametophyte and sporophyte phases which are independent at maturity. Most importantly their stem is aerial or underground. Their other most common characteristics which include the vascular plant are plant plesiomorphy and apomorphy.
