King Ashoka regarded his subjects as his children. He was ready to do anything which pleased his subjects and the people of the empire. As a good king, he took many welfare measures for his empire and subjects.
- He built good roads for the transportation of goods and as well as easy travelling of people.
- He planted plants on both sides of the roads himself, for a clean and green empire. He loved plants and could not stand it if anyone cut them for their own profit.
- He built rest houses, both for the benefit of tourists and people of the empire. Sometimes he would also get money for these rest houses from the tourists. He used to donate this money among the poor people.
- He built canals and wells so that the people living in deserted areas were also getting the facility of drinking water to fulfill their daily needs.
- Waterways were also built for easy transportation of goods as well as people.
Along with being welfare measures, these factors are also reasons behind King Ashoka becoming so popular among people, even today.
