The pulse measures not heartbeat directly but the distension in the thick muscular walls of the arteries as blood is pumped through them. The pulse is measured by placing two fingers in the region of the radial artery towards the thumb. The rate of heartbeat can be measured, the state and health of the heart can be known by measuring the pulse. How feeble the pulse is tells us about the blood pressure and if the person has a high blood pressure or not. This tells us a lot about the heart and the blood vessels and about about blockage of arteries.
