The poem The Rime of the Ancient Mariner is written by Samuel Taylor Coleridge. The poem focuses on the vengeance and power of the natural world
EXPLANATION:
- The Albatross killing was an immense crime against nature, since the albatross was a symbol of the soul’s purity. So the mariner had committed a grave crime and by killing the albatross tantamount to destroying the soul’s purity.
- As such the mariner brought distresses unto himself by having killed the Albatross. Even after the mariner reached the land, the sight of his crew dying haunted him like his guilt of killing the albatross. The ship too remained the primary with no movement or motion akin to a portrayed ship in a painted ocean.
- This is an apt description of the poem. Had the mariner left things the way it was meant to be, the mariner’s life would have been different. The Albatross would have been his and his crew’s lucky charm and they would have lived a happy existence.
