Pure water contains 11.11% of hydrogen and 88.89% of oxygen by mass. What will be the

composition of salts such as ammonia, carbon dioxide, sodium chloride and hydrogen
sulphide.​

(i)Ammonia is NH3 = 1x N + 3x H

=1x 14+3x 1

= 17 u or mol-1

composition of nitrogen = 14/17 x 100

= 82.35%

composition of Hydrogen = 100.00% - 82.35%

= 17.65 %

(ii) Carbon dioxide = CO2 = 1 x c + 2 x O = 44 u

composition of Carbon = 12/44 x 100 = 27.27%

composition of Oxygen = 100% - 27.27% = 72.73
