Raghupati Venkatratnam, a social reformer from Machilipatnam district in Andhra Pradesh started the purity movement.He opposed the evils of widow abuse, child abuse, untouchability, devadasi system etc.He established many orphanages and hostels, promoted widow remarriages, and education of women.He was popularly known as Brahma Rishi among his fellows members at the Brahma Samaj.
