Answer:

Teeth are an important part of the human body. It has a hard-outer protective layering called enamel which is generally white in color. Since we drink a lot of beverages, so in due course of time, they leave stains on our teeth and make them yellowish.

Explanation:

Now we will carry out an experiment to see the amount of staining caused by tea and cola by using egg shells (as they are made of similar substance as of the tooth enamel):-

What we will need:

  • Tea
  • Cola
  • Four containers or jars
  • Toothpaste
  • 4 Egg shells

Instructions:

  • Pour tea and cola in same quantity into all the four jars.
  • Put two of the egg shells in one of the two jars containing tea and cola.
  • Now cover remaining two egg shells with toothpaste and place them in the remaining two jars containing tea and cola.
  • Leave them untouched for approximately 3-4 days.
  • Remove the egg shells and rinse them and rub gently.

Results:

  • We can observe staining on all of the egg shells.
  • The non-toothpaste covered egg shells are less stained as compared to the toothpaste covered ones.

Conclusions:

  • Tea stains our teeth the most as they are rich in tannin.
  • Cola stains our teeth too as they are acidic in nature and also contains dark colored staining substances.

Therefore, it very important and also advised by every dentist that we should brush our teeth at least twice a day. Also, clean teeth with floss or mouthwash after every meal.
