Subsidiary Alliance is a treaty which was signed or agreed between the “British East India Company” and “The Indian states”. It was use by the French Governor General Duplex.

Some of the features of the Subsidiary Alliance are as follows:

a)    The Indian ruler who signs the alliance should give all his own armed forces to the British.

b)    Should accept the British forces into the ruler’s territory.

c)    Have to pay maintenance to the British Army.
