Let Principal be Rs x

SI=A-P

SI=Rs4800 - x

SI=P×R×T/100

Rs4800 - x= x×4×5/100

100(4800 - x)=20x

Rs480000-100x=20x

Rs48000=20x+100x

Rs480000=120x

x=Rs480000/120

Principal=Rs4000

The sum borrowed by Pushpa = 4000 Rs

Given:

Pushpa returned a sum of Rs. 4800

Rate of interest R = 4%

Time period T = 5 years

To find:

The sum borrowed by her

Solution:

Let P be the sum borrowed by Her

⇒ The total amount after T = 5 years at R = 4%

= P + interest

As we know Interest = PTR/100

Interest = P(5)4/100 =  0.2P

and the total amount = P + 0.2P = 1.2P

Given that total amount after 5 years = 4800 Rs

⇒ 4800 = 1.2P

⇒ P = 4000 Rs

The sum borrowed by Pushpa = 4000 Rs
