Puzzle : Identical Balls There are 8 identical balls. In that one of the ball is overweight. There are only two chances to weigh in the weighing machine. How to find the overweight ball?

  1. Take any 6 balls and weigh 3 vs 3. Now there are two possible outcomes
  2. The weights are balanced, meaning that all 6 balls considered in the first weighing are normal. So, the next step is elementary
  3. Weigh the remaining 2 balls against each other, you’ll know which one is heavy.
  4. The weights are imbalanced, with one of the sides (say, the right side) is the heavier one. Now, it is clear that one of the 3 balls on that side is the heavier ball. So, for the Second Weighing, weigh any two of those balls against each other. If one of the two sides is heavier, that’s the ball that you’re looking for; if the weights are balanced, then the ball that wasn’t weighed is the heavier one.

NOTE: IT SHOULD BE A BEAM BALANCE.
