FROTH FLOATATION METHOD

Pyrite ores are concentrated by Froth floatation method.

EXTRACTION OF COPPER PYRITE BY FROTH FLOATATION METHOD:

The froth flotation procedure is used to recover copper from copper pyrites.

* In a mineral-water slurry, the froth flotation process is used to separate particles based on variations in the capacity of air bubbles to preferentially bind to certain mineral surfaces.

* A finely crushed ore suspension is suspended in water with a blast of air flowing through it. Wet particles with air bubbles float as a froth that may be skimmed, but particles without air bubbles become heavy and sink to the bottom.

* Copper is recovered from Copper pyrites CuFeS2, which is its primary mineral. The froth flotation technique concentrates the ore. The concentrated ore is subsequently roasted in a furnace, where sulphur and arsenic fumes are removed by chemical processes.

*The copper pyrite is subsequently transformed to a combination of Cu2S and FeS by the processes that follow.

*These sulphides are subsequently oxidized, and copper is recovered effectively by smelting them.
