hypotenuse {}^{2}  = base {}^{2}  + altitude {}^{2}

for example,

find hypotenuse of a ∆ with base 3 and altitude 4 cm

 {hypotenuse}^{2}  =  {3}^{2}  +  {4}^{2}  \\

 {hyp}^{2}  = 9 + 16

hypotenuse =  \sqrt{9 + 16}

hyp =  \sqrt{25}

 \sqrt{25}  = 5cm

hope it is helpful....
