q 1 ) A motorcyclist starts from rest and reaches a speed of 6 m/s after
travelling with uniform acceleration for 3 seconds. What is his
acceleration?
q 2 )If a bus travelling at 20 m/s is subjected to a steady deceleration of
5m/s 2 . How long will it take to come to rest?

Answer:

1.

u = 0

t = 3

v = 6

f = ?

We know that

V = u + ft

6 = 0 + 3f

f = 2

Hence his acceleration = 2 m/s^2

2.

u = 20

f = - 5

v = 0

t = ?

We know that

We know that V = u + ft

0 = 20 - 5f

ff = 20/5 = 4

Hence the required time = 4 sec

Answer 1: Since the motorcyclist starts from rest the initial velocity of the bike is 0

therefore u=0

final speed achieved after three seconds is 6 m/s

therefore v=6

time =3

Applying v = u + at we get ,

6 = 0 + a*3

a=6/3

a=2 m/s^2

Answer 2 :

initial speed of the bus is 20 m/s

u= 20 m/s

a= -5 m/s^2

After applying deceleration the object comes to rest thus

v=0

Applying v= u + at we get

0 = 20 - 5(t)

5(t)=20

t= 4 second
