A) Matter:-

Matter is everything around you. Atoms and compounds are all made of very small parts of matter. Those atoms go on to build the things you see and touch every day. Matter is defined as anything that has mass and takes up space (it has volume).

B) Kinetic energy:-

Kinetic energy is a property of a moving object or particle and depends not only on its motion but also on its mass. The kind of motion may be translation (or motion along a path from one place to another), rotation about an axis, vibration, or any combination of motions. Kinetic energy. Energy. E = mc2

Definitions :

a) Matter :

  • Anything that occupies space and has mass is called matter.

b) Kinetic Energy :

  • The energy transferred is known as kinetic energy. The kinetic energy of molecules increases with the increase in temperature and decreases with the decrease in temperature.

c) Inter- particle space :

  • Space between two different particles is known as Inter- particle space.

d) Inter- particle force of attraction :

  • Force of attraction between two different particles is known as Inter- particle force of attraction.

e) Cohesive force of attraction :

  • The force of attraction between similar kind of molecules is known as Cohesive force of attraction.

f) Adhesive force of attraction :

  • The force of attraction between different kinds of molecules is known as Adhesive force of attraction.

g) Brownian motion :

  • The uncontrolled motion of particles in a fluid due to their constant collision with other fast-moving molecules is known as Brownian motion.

h) Diffusion :

  • The movement of a substance from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration is known as Diffusion.

i) Effusion :

  • The movement of a substance from an area of low concentration to an area of high concentration is known as Effusion.
