The major sources of history writing of Ancient Delhi are as follows:

1. Literary sources- Vedic, Pali,  Sanskrit, ancient books( Jataka, Dharmasutras, etc)  and other foreign accounts( Herodotus, Megasthenes, Arrian, etc).

The Epic and Puranic literature are also considered to be good sources by Indians.

2. Archaeological sources- epigraphic( ancient inscriptions), architectural remains ( buildings, houses and monuments) and numismatic( coins, seals, etc). Also includes the various explorations and excavations.
